GUZMAN Y GOMEZ BRINGS BACK POPULAR MENU ITEM AFTER CUSTOMER OUTRAGE

Guzman y Gomez has announced the return of a fan-favourite item after it was pulled from the menu last year.

The Mexican-themed fast-food chain announced on Monday it was bringing back pulled shiitake mushrooms across its Australian restaurants.

Customers were outraged when the vegetarian option was removed last December and vented their frustration on social media.

A petition was also launched urging Guzman y Gomez to bring back the meal option.

'Give me back my shredded mushroom burrito bowl. I will sell my kidney for it to be back again,' one wrote.

'Bring back the mushroom filling. It is the only thing I order, and I order every week,' another said.

A third added: 'I don't know who decided to take shredded mushrooms off the menu but I hope your pillow is warm on both sides!'

The chain has listened to the feedback and has not only revived the popular menu item, but is also launching pulled shiitake mushroom tacos.

Guzman y Gomez founder and co-CEO Steven Marks said: 'The obsession GYG guests have with mushrooms is real. I've never had so much feedback about a menu item and as always, we listened and it's back and better than ever.

'We've also included Pulled Shiitake Mushroom on our brekkie menu and so guests can add it to their Brekkie burrito, or our brekkie tacos and as a side with guac on toast.

'We know the addition of the plant-based Pulled Shiitake Mushroom on the menu is going to is going to be a real talking point for our guests especially our Pulled Shiitake Mushroom Taco with Herb Mayo, it's a special taco build and we want everyone to try it.

'GYG's menu is fully customisable with every order made fresh, so spread the word - It's time to fall in love with GYG's Pulled Shiitake Mushroom again.'

The plant-based option is available all day at GYG restaurants and on the app.
