TMN INDAHPURA SALON ORDERED TO REFUND CUSTOMER FULL FEE OF HAIR REMOVAL PACKAGE

A LOGISTICS administrative executive was stuck with a package for hair removal when a beauty salon in Taman Indahpura, Kulai in Johor, refused to give her a refund.

Wong Sin Ping said the salon had offered a 30-minute session for just RM28, which was cheaper than other salons that priced the same service at RM88.

She received the first treatment for RM28 on July 14 and decided to sign up for a package costing RM2,500 on the same day.

“Initially, I was attracted to the offer,” Wong said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar.

The 26-year-old claimant, who works in Singapore, made full payment with RM1,250 deducted from her debit card and the remaining RM1,250 by credit card.

However, Wong changed her mind after reaching home.

She returned to the salon a few days later to ask for a refund but the salon was only willing to return RM2,225 after deducting 5% for the credit card transfer charges and RM150 for the administrative fee.

“They asked me to wait until August to get the money back but when the month ended, I asked again and they told me that they will return the money in October,” said Wong.

She then proceeded to file a claim with the tribunal last month.

Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent, who did not attend the hearing, to refund RM2,500 to the claimant within two weeks.

In a separate case, Hafez ordered a company selling therapeutic massage chairs to refund RM5,000 to a customer within two weeks.

When met outside the tribunal, maid agency manager Lim Xing You said he paid RM5,940 for a massage chair after visiting a shop at a mall in Johor Baru on March 11.

“The chair was for my future mother-in-law in Labis, Segamat,” said the claimant.

The 26-year-old Singaporean said he called the company on March 12 to cancel the purchase as his future mother-in-law would be moving to Singapore instead of remaining in Labis.

He said the decision was made after her long-term pass to stay in Singapore was approved.

“We didn’t see any need for her to have the chair anymore as she will be staying in Singapore,” said Lim.

Lim said that when he and his girlfriend made the purchase, the company informed them that the delivery service was only for Malaysia and the product warranty was also only valid in Malaysia.

Lim said he decided to file a case with the tribunal as the company refused to refund the full RM5,940 to him and was only willing to return RM2,970.

At the hearing, a representative of the company told Lim the chair could be delivered to Singapore.

However, the claimant did not want the chair anymore.

Hafez ordered the respondent to refund RM5,000 to the claimant within two weeks.
